Frequently Asked Questions

Most of the range carries a composite safety toe rated to ASTM F2413 for impact and compression, the same standard steel meets, despite the casual appearance. That is the reason the line exists: a shoe that satisfies a rated-toe requirement without looking like PPE. A few models, such as the Torrent, are soft toe with slip resistance only. Toe type is stated in every product title, so you can tell which is which without opening the page.

The Squire composite toe waterproof industrial boot is built fully non-metallic, meaning the toe cap, shank, and hardware are all free of metal. This is worth calling out because a composite toe on its own does not make a boot metal-detector safe on most brands, since the shank is a separate component that is often steel. If you pass through detectors at work, verify the whole boot rather than just the cap. Our 100 percent non metallic collection covers every verified metal-free model we carry.

Slip resistance runs through much of the line and is stated in the product title on the models that carry it, including the Bonneville, Torrent, and Polara. It is a property of the outsole compound and tread pattern rather than of the shoe overall, which is why it is listed per model. If your employer requires a slip rating for a kitchen, plant, or retail floor, confirm it on the page for the exact model. Browse the wider slip resistant range.

The line is built on athletic-style construction with cushioned midsoles rather than the firm platform of a traditional leather work boot, which makes it a reasonable choice for flat indoor floors. What you give up is arch structure and ankle support, so if you work on uneven ground or spend the day on and off equipment, a proper boot will serve you better. Footbeds are removable on most models if you use orthotics.

A composite toe is a non-metallic safety cap made from materials such as carbon fiber, fiberglass, or reinforced plastic, and it meets the same ASTM F2413 impact and compression standard as steel. It is lighter than steel and does not conduct heat or cold, which matters if you work in a freezer or outdoors in extremes. Steel is the cheaper route to the same rating. Our full composite toe work boots range covers the equivalent models across every brand.

A few are, including the Squire industrial boot, and waterproof status is stated in the product title. Most of the range is not, because the breathable athletic uppers that make these shoes comfortable indoors are the opposite of a sealed membrane. If wet ground is your daily condition, filter to the waterproof models specifically. See our full waterproof work boots range for the wider set of options.

DieHard shoes generally run true to size, and because most of the line uses athletic construction your sneaker size is a reasonable starting point. The composite toe cap does take up internal volume, so a rated model will feel slightly snugger at the front than an unrated shoe in the same size. Available sizes and widths are listed on each product page, and exchanges are free if the fit is not right.

Indoor and light-industrial work on flat surfaces: plant floors, warehouses, retail stockrooms, automotive shops, and food service, anywhere you need a rated toe and reliable grip but not heavy abrasion resistance or ankle support. For outdoor trades, uneven ground, or anywhere the boot upper takes real abuse, look at the leather work boot brands instead.
