Frequently Asked Questions

The shape is the same and everything underneath is different. A western work boot adds an ASTM-rated safety toe on the rated models, a work outsole built for traction on the ground, and often an electrical hazard rating and a cushioned footbed. A traditional cowboy boot has a smooth leather sole designed to slide in and out of a stirrup.

With caution. The gripping work outsole that makes these good on the ground is exactly what you do not want in a stirrup, since a smooth sole is what lets your foot slide free if you come off. If you ride regularly, that trade deserves genuine thought rather than assuming a western-shaped boot is a riding boot.

Square gives more room across the ball of the foot and is the broader traditional working silhouette. Round fits closer and slides into a stirrup more easily. Neither is tougher, since the shape is the last rather than the protection. If your feet swell over a long day, square is usually more comfortable. See our square toe boots range.

Because lacing gives fit control a pull-on cannot, which matters if you climb or your feet swell over a shift. Georgia builds both entries in the western range. Pull-ons win on speed and on jobs where laces could catch on equipment; lacers win on heel lockdown.

Georgia's carbon-fiber safety toe, the lightest rated cap material available, meeting the same ASTM F2413 standard as steel while being non-metallic so it does not conduct heat or cold. The Carbo Tec FLX adds a more flexible build. A non-metallic cap alone does not make the boot detector safe, since the shank is separate.

Mostly 11 inches, which is the traditional western work height and keeps mud, debris and light standing water out while covering the calf against brush. Height is stated in every product title. Taller is heavier and less flexible through the ankle, so buy the height your ground actually needs.

It depends on the sole rather than the silhouette. A defined western heel concentrates weight and tires you on flat hard ground. If your day is a plant floor rather than a ranch, look at the flatter-soled models or the wedge range instead. See our Georgia wedge boots range.

Several are, and it is stated in the product title. The rest are water-resistant leather that sheds rain but wets through with sustained exposure. Because Georgia builds both versions of similar models, check the title rather than assuming across the family.
